
A multi-functional course for learning Chinese language and culture as well as appreciating beautiful Chinese landscape.
Introduction:
This 50-unit course is compiled by Mr. Liu Daozun from Beijing Language and Culture University. Mr. Liu has extensive teaching experience in Chinese for tourism. The textbook is meant for foreign learners who have a fair command of the basic grammar of contemporary Chinese and a vocabulary of around 2,500 words, and who are interested in Chinese history, landscapes and culture. The textbook shall be used together with the video program.
The 1,500-minute video program, a Key Audio-visual Textbook Project of the Tenth Five-year Plan period (2001-2005), gives a virtual tour of the spectacular scenery in Beijing, Xi’an, Luoyang, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Guilin, Chengdu and Lhasa, all of which have histories of over 1,000 years.
The hosts explain language points while showing the natural and cultural attractions. Using language understandable to learners, the hosts explain key and difficult words. In addition, proper names and recommended words are highlighted in the captions with pinyin and English explanations.
Learners will be exposed to China’s social customs, history, folklore and landscapes while learning the Chinese language. They may also come to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese nation.
